ORVIETO

This town of Etruscan origin, is an interesting place to stop: for its monuments, for its charming medieval character, for the structure of its old city centre, for its cathedral and most of all for its singular position on a plateau of volcanic tuff.

Its marvellous cathedral is a gem of gothic - Romanesque architecture, its façade a mixure of marble and mosaics.

Saint Patrick's well was based on a design by Antonio da Sangallo and is famous for its double helix staircase with its 248 steps for each ramp: you go down and come back up without retracing your steps!
